A Bit of Poetry - Matthew 5

Just thought I would share my thoughts on Matthew 5 in a bit of poetry

Keep the vanity of earthly trophy

And the accolades of mankind.

Kindle not the fire within me

That forges deceit in heart and mind.

Make no room for arrogance and pride;

Only mournful for my sinful state.

For in repentance and redemption,

Burden and anxiety need not be my fate.

As I walk in life’s daily journey

And with each challenge that I face;

I wonder how the “meek” survive

How they ever will complete the race.

Ah yes, it is not my strength that I depend.

It is not power that is coupled with self-pride.

For humility is not weak and powerless,

But rather strength by God tested, true and tried.

Oh Lord, may your Word always be my course.

And may Your virtue forever be my desire.

And may I show mercy to the merciless.

And in gratitude I will stay true under fire.

Today, I pray to be pure in heart

Even though I may be covered in grime.

May I share with others your insurmountable peace,

The peace that stands far above the test of time.

Thank you Lord for being my Father.

I enjoy your presence in the passing of each day.

And even the midst discouragement and trial

You provide hope and strength along the way.

The Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount as Spoken by Jesus Christ and recorded in Matthew chapter 5

***

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,

For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,

For they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,

For they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

For they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful,

For they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart,

For they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,

For they shall be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,

For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
