THANKSGIVING 2019

Robin and family put together a great dinner. Thanks Robin for all your hard work.

I have to admit that my mind and heart entertained many memories today. I have enjoyed many meals in this house going all the way to when my Grandparents, Emanuel and Hazel Reinhold still lived on the ranch. My Dad and Mom moved in to the house in the early sixties. I have live here nearly my entire life. And Robin has been my partner in life for nearly thirty years. Yes there are many memories..

My, My, My!
Norman Rockwell would be proud.

Twenty plus years ago, Robin and I shared our Thanksgiving day with our first child. Rachel was born early Thanksgiving morning. We were more than excited. The hospital staff not only prepared a nice meal for Robin, they were kind enough to bring me a plate as well. Robin and I thought the food was pretty good, but I knew that I was missing an amazing Thanksgiving meal at home with other family members. About mid afternoon, I drove home leaving Robin and Rachel so I could do some chores. I had no reason to feel sorry for myself for when I walked into my parents home, my mother had a plate of wonderful food waiting for me... Not much different than the one that our "Thanksgiving baby" Rachel dished up for herself today.

IT IS ABOUT.....

We didn't just eat dinner and go and sit on the couch and watch TV. :) Good job Caleb James. One shot... perfect shot....nice deer. I was glad to be able to be there with you. Your little sisters were tickled as well. And I know the rest of the family was, too.

Robin and I carry on a tradition that my parents adhered to as well. Our kids don't get rich working on the ranch, but we do want them to enjoy the benefits of hunting on the ranch. I am not against pay hunting.... I just feel the fringe benefits for our crew is worth so much more.

When ever we hunt, we count our blessings... whether we get something or not. And when we do have success, we realize the beauty of the creature. Hunting is not just about killing. It is about stewardship. It is about the outdoors. It is about family. It is about a way of life. It is about tradition. All of which we care about.

FATHERLESS??????

SCAN1489.jpg

JUST A THOUGHT...
I HAVE SEEN THE HEADLINES A NUMBER OF TIMES

"OF 27 'PERPS'.... 26 WERE FATHERLESS"

OK....

It is impossible to be fatherless.
However due to parental decisions... many families are broken. Our Government programs promote "singleness". The feminist agenda, and no I did not say "feminine" has been winning the war on the traditional family. Homelessness could also be defined as "no one is home". Eating together as a family is touted by numerous groups... and yet how many meals do we eat together as family per week. We continue to call for more school activity and school hours to step up and care for our kids. I could write more...

WE NEED TO STEP UP AND LOVE OUR KIDS... OUR FAMILY
WE NEED TO ADHERE TO BIBLICAL TRUTHS.

WEANING CALVES

It was a "tad bit "windy as we brought the cows and calves in today. Still feeling the dirt in the eyes tonight. But the task is done and we hear the music of cows and calves this evening in the barnyard.

Robin took some pretty photos of the cows coming across. We so appreciate "Mom" taking so many pics that remind us of the life that we enjoy.

I know Robin would agree with me. Working and sorting cattle as family is truly a blessing.

Sorting went pretty good. The cows were a little slow in the wind... and maybe they knew were weaning.... After that we sorted heifers and steers... And then we did some more sorting and then "a little more sorting".

A lot of contemplation as we sort. We are looking at not only size, but quality as well. And maybe as you know some of these calves are going down the road to someone else's operation... perhaps... well, I guess you could say, "You get a little fond of these guys." You can probably see that in some of our expressions.

The steers loaded on the truck well. I sure appreciate my good helpers.

We got the steers loaded...Kiersten took a look to make sure calves were doing good. The crew lined up with Keith Fawcett. This is the second year that we have been blessed to see the steer calves go on to Fawcett's Elm Creek Ranch at Ree Heights, South Dakota. We pray that they do well.

Planting trees at Grandma's place

We had a good afternoon. The family went to Grandma Ellen's house today, because she wanted to plant some trees. Now that is right down our alley. And yes, we love it... Grandma, even though she is a "little older"... still likes to plant trees. Forward thinking... lasting legacy.... and nice shade trees to enjoy for whoever comes down the pathway in the future. We love you Grandma. Thanks for dinner and thanks for being such a fine example.

SUPPER TIME

We had a very productive day building calf shelter/windbreak. We then enjoyed a splendid supper prepared by Robin... Homemade of course... She first ground the wheat and then made luscious.. yes "luscious" loaves of bread. And the split pea and ham soup was perfect...And Pear Custard Pie for dessert.

A Good Day

Lonetree Ranch Construction Crew... We are rebuilding portions of this windbreak and the calf shelter that is built into it. Weather and storms had taken their toll over the last years.. Such a privilege to work with family.

Rachel and I just came in from checking some livestock. Snowing right along. Rachel picked some wild coreopsis by the gate. Of course Robin was waiting up for us. She added the freshly picked dainty yellow flowers to the last bouquet of Autumn 2019... and of course she took a photo for me to share. All this around 11:00 PM

A SEPTEMBER SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Very nice.
After a somewhat cool rainy weekend... the sun came out this afternoon. Robin took these photos around the yard this Sunday afternoon.
