CHRISTMAS IN MONOCHROME 2023

WON'T QUIT NOW...

The other night Robin and I were talking deeply and thoughtfully about our family. Our children are no longer kids... and our family is expanding. We talked of joys and challenges. Oh we have been more than blessed as our four daughters and two sons have been an amazing part of our lives. I shared with Robin my desire and heart's conviction to pray "even more" for each one along with the expanded family.

***

This conversation took place two days ago and here I am sitting in my chair in the early morning hours still pondering that conversation. Pondering and praying... Certainly, I prayed for our next generation that Robin and I have been blessed with, however now perhaps with more of a desire of sincerity and perhaps urgency. Two or three things are upon my heart...

***

One.... The verse in the book of James that speaks of the "effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much". God working in my family starts with me as an individual. I cry out, "Oh, God let me be that man". A man after God's heart...

***

Two... God laid on my heart the following principle... "It may be hard for one to shine when they stand in the shadow of another". May my presence and goals never stand in the way of what God has planned for those that follow after me. I know too many parents that are chasing dreams and earthly goals and in so doing, they have forsaken leading and teaching the ones that are flesh and blood. When one invests into his or her child's heart they are truly laying up treasures in heaven and not the temporary of this fleeting world.

***

Three... I must never forget the principle found in Philippians 1:3-6 (personalized for myself and my family)

"I thank my God every time I remember you (each of my children). In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your PARTNERSHIP in the gospel from the first day until now, being CONFIDENT OF THIS, THAT HE WHO BEGAN A GOOD WORK IN YOU WILL CARRY IT ON TO COMPLETION UNTIL THE DAY OF JESUS CHRIST.

JULIA'S GRADUATION

May 19, 2023 was a very special evening as we celebrated, with our Julia Lee, completion of high school, but certainly not the end of learning. We are very grateful to God for our daughter. Love you so much and Godspeed,

Mom and Dad

STONE JOHNNY

Our "Stone Johnny" erected at Deer Draw near Castello Point. Our family had been planting trees and we took a little break to build a reminder of our efforts. Each time we see that Stone Johnny, we are reminded of a special family event.

***

Across the Plains and into the Intermountain northwest... they are called Stone Johnnys, as well. Landmarks to help early day sheepherders and settlers to show boundaries and other locations of importance. They can be found in various locations in South Dakota and across the five state region (South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and Nebraska)

***

We read in the Old Testament of God asking leaders like Joshua to set up "memorials" ... reminders of special events as stated in Joshua 4:6-7… “that this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.”

"SNOW BUSINESS"

I believe there was a song...

"There's no business like 'snow' business

Like no business I know

Everything about it is appealing

Everything that 'hill' will allow

Nowhere could you get that happy feeling

When you are stealing that extra bow

There's no people like 'snow' people

They smile when they are low

Even with a 'pile of windswept snow'

You may be stranded out in the cold

Still you wouldn't change it for a sack of gold

Let's go on with the 'snow'

Irving Berlin...thanks for letting me take a little liberty with the song:)

It was crazy. You would pick up speed coming down the hill and then hit snow that had piled in about foot or two deep. Felt like a bunch of gophers..

At the end of the "Gopher Run"...

Sledding in amazing powder on Saturday afternoon after Christmas.

The powdery snow that we received overnight is quite delightful. Yes if the wind would begin to blow...it would be nearly a blizzard...but it isn't. So we enjoyed being outdoors as a family. Cherished moments..

Molly and Belle are sporting the latest in sledding attire..."furry head pieces"

Yesterday afternoon was wonderful. Sure the temperature was 3 degrees...but the sun was shining and the wind wasn't blowing. Julia and Kiersten let me join them on the toboggan on this run. The powder at the end of the run literally buried us.
