I think our society took a fall when we started giving out participation ribbons.
I went to town today with mom to get some stuff done and on our way out of town we passed a kid walking on the side of the street. Aimlessly, hood up, hands in pockets, skinny jeans hanging way lower than I could handle and looking like he was looking for a reason to live. He probably was.
What does participation ribbons have to do with that? Motivation to do better, encouragement to Be the best you. And the will to strive to be great.
For when everyone is the winner. No one is. So why try anymore?
