WEANING CALVES
It was a "tad bit "windy as we brought the cows and calves in today. Still feeling the dirt in the eyes tonight. But the task is done and we hear the music of cows and calves this evening in the barnyard.
Robin took some pretty photos of the cows coming across. We so appreciate "Mom" taking so many pics that remind us of the life that we enjoy.
I know Robin would agree with me. Working and sorting cattle as family is truly a blessing.
Sorting went pretty good. The cows were a little slow in the wind... and maybe they knew were weaning.... After that we sorted heifers and steers... And then we did some more sorting and then "a little more sorting".
A lot of contemplation as we sort. We are looking at not only size, but quality as well. And maybe as you know some of these calves are going down the road to someone else's operation... perhaps... well, I guess you could say, "You get a little fond of these guys." You can probably see that in some of our expressions.
The steers loaded on the truck well. I sure appreciate my good helpers.
We got the steers loaded...Kiersten took a look to make sure calves were doing good. The crew lined up with Keith Fawcett. This is the second year that we have been blessed to see the steer calves go on to Fawcett's Elm Creek Ranch at Ree Heights, South Dakota. We pray that they do well.
